Hi! I've created this guide to help people looking for great books on autism and/or Asperger's Syndrome. This is only a short list of some of the great books out there, that I originally created for a college assignment. (That's why they're written in a bibliographic notation style ( Read more... )

This is absolutely great. My brother has Asperger's Syndrome so I have been studying the effects of it since I was young. He is currently 12 and in the seventh grade. His area of interest in technology and he is amazing at it. He can fix any computer in no time flat. Although it is a disorder, it has opened many doors for him and had given him opportunites. Frankly, I think the positives outway the negatives.

For your brother at this stage of his life, they seem to, yes. For me, I consider myself neuro-atypical, but not disabled.

Really it's a very individual thing. I know some people find their Asperger's a huge burden. Because of the variation in individuals and in manifestations of "symptoms", every person with autism experiences it differently. Though I come from a family where at least four of us (but probably more, especially looking back in the family tree) have Asperger's, I can honestly say that each of us is very different, and has different patterns of sensitivity and behaviour.

If your brother expresses interest in reading personal accounts by kids like himself at any point, he'd probably like Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome by Luke Jackson and Asperger Syndrome, the Universe and Everything by Kenneth Hall. They're age appropriate and both good reads.

Hi! I wandered over from copperbadge and I came across this list. Can I ask, have you heard of a book called Women from Another Planet edited by Jean Kearns Miller? I read it about a year ago and I really empathised with it.

I have heard of it but I haven't read it. It's on my 'to get if I ever get the chance' list.

If you want a bigger, better list than this, you should check out the Autistic Authors Booklist.

Thank you!

I have Asperger's Syndrome myself. I wanted a list of books that were positive, informative, and focussed mainly on personal accounts. You can read all the textbooks and parental accounts in the world and still not really understand what it's like to be autistic because you're not seeing it from the inside ( ... )
