And just like that...

it's over. GTS technically still runs seminars tomorrow but as far as I can tell, the show is done today. They tried a new format where Monday was set-up day for exhibitors while retailers had seminars, then exhibit hall hours were Tuesday and Wednesday, then more seminars on Thursday. On Tuesday and Wednesday there were free lunch and dinner ( Read more... )

many retailers and some distributors kept repeating that they still really don't have a good feel for what 4E is going to be like and they feel frustrated
J'accuse WotC.

There's absolutely no reason for this to happen in the first place and really no reason for it to have gone on this long.

It's ridiculous and embarrassing.

That all said, it did seem like those who got to handle the physical product itself were generally impressed with 4E. The design factors on that look to be pretty exciting.

Scott Rouse did a fairly effective job of being a person I have no desire to beat on over anything, really. Lenny Balsera from Evil Hat had a chat with him about the whole "hey... Fudge is under the OGL; what up?" issue, and while I'm not sure the responses are something it's OK for me to share on the internet, Scott's response at least firmly established him as a good guy in a bad position.

Let's see, in order of topics:
GTS over on Thu - yep, pretty much the case. I don't know that the half day of stuff on Friday kept many around except those of us with late flights. I saw you and the GR dudes in one of the halls, but when I turned around to say goodbye you'd gone. Bummer.

The GR shinny - all was awesome. I wish I'd taken pics of the Song of Ice and Fire pamphlets to show off. GR was solid, as always. Black and green will live forever.

4e - I feel for Bill and Scott, I really do. D&D was a non-event at GTS, really, aside from getting to touch and see the books (pretty, I will give them that hands down), but WotC was... in another plane.

It was great seeing you and the GR crew. We'll catch up later in June when I head over to Seattle.
