I was going to post about this but gmskarka beat me to it.

What can I say? I'm glad our business plan didn't rely on being able to produce officially recognized STL support for 4E D&D. Since I had trouble believing that Scott would make such a huge gaffe as to conflate the OGL and the STL, I went back and searched the forums.

Here Scott is pretty damn clear that we're not misinterpreting things.

Actually, that's not what he's saying at all.

I'm clear on the context of the quote from Scott. I know he was specifically replying to the "tiered license" claims. I was at the so-called "publishers" meeting at GenCon (that unfortunately included random D&D enthusiasts and members of the podcasting community in addition to actual publishers) where Bill and Scott addressed the room quite publicly and where the idea of a tiered license was discussed at some length.

They've decided not to go that route. That's fine. But to say "any theoretical changes to the d20 STL have not been spoken of publicly at any point" is wrong. Several theoretical changes have been not only spoken of but PODCAST for anyone to hear. You would be correct to say that no one from WotC has announced an official statement of intent yet but it certainly has been discussed, officially and in public.

In that thread, Scott said: "There will be Wizards official D&D products (which will include licensed D&D products for foreign language translation) and ( ... )
