And summer disappeared again...

Rained this morning and was cloudy depressing until early afternoon so we weren't able to have bunny play time outside or go bike riding. I thought about trying to hit the Ballard Seafood Festival on our way out of town but decided to give it a pass to be sure I wasn't late meeting up with Mark. Instead I took Kate shopping at the JC Penney's 70%- ( Read more... )

I was quite excited that we finally had a nice, warm, sunny day here. And then I got rained on as I drove to pick up my supper and back to the office (a suck in its own right). Once I got back to the office, the rain moved on. Thank you, weather gods.

I have a friend who got a SAD lamp and put natural spectrum lighting in her house. It made a world of difference for her. I heartily recommend it.

I'm blessed with naturally hearty teeth. Even if I don't see the dentist for years on end (which happens when you don't have insurance) and maintain only my usually slovenly brushing habits, I only end up with with a few cavities. As I'm getting older, I'm trying to find ways to up my dental hygiene. Having a friend who needed to have her jaw wired shut while they rebuilt it has impressed me in this regard. One thing I've found helpful is those goofy, spendy "Sonic Care" toothbrushes. First, they save me on flossing without upping my dental guilt quotient. Second, they feature a timer that informs you of when to switch from one quadrant of the mouth to another. My problem areas are my back molars and behind my lower front teeth so I do the four recommended periods on each quadrant of molars and then an extra one on the front teeth, starting in back. Even if I only get to this every few days, my teeth come away feeling really good.

So long as you're willing to sit close to them for 40 minutes or so every morning, SAD lamps work spectacularly well. We used and recommended them extensively when I used to do fatigue and alertness counseling; a petroleum plant in Alaska I did a project at gave some away to their employees. Just remember that the light's intensity falls at the inverse square of the distance, so closer to your eyes = MUCH more effective in buoying mood.
