Thanks to the miraculously good deals on hotels I've snagged through Hotwire (and a CDN to USD that's not quite as good as the glory days of $1.43 when I was living up there but it's way better than the conversion to the Euro or the Pound in recent memory) Chris and I have managed to enjoy a weekend at a luxury hotel in Vancouver about once a year

That sounds like a lovely trip, apart from the bowheads. However, I must admit that my first reaction upon reading your story was "She's lucky it wasn't a frat." I had more than one friend in the dorms call an RA on a rowdy frat gathering, then awaken the next morning to a urine-soaked door. (Fortunately there were gaskets under the doors, or the puddles would have certainly spread into the rooms proper.)
