Oh, this was gorgeous. Heartbreaking, but still gorgeous.

Thank you! One of these days I'm going to stop writing about how much it sucks to be an ex-mutant, but that day is apparently not today.

I haven't read anything quite like it before. I don't think you should stop! I enjoyed this very much, even without being certain who the characters are. The anonymity of it really drove home the loss to me.

Nice job.

Well, thanks for the vote of confidence. :) I feel like ex-mutants have stories to tell that work well with my storytelling style and preferences. They've lost everything that made them special without gaining anything to make them normal. I'll probably be writing about it for a while yet, until I run out of new stories to tell.

Oh, nice. I love, love, love stories about former mutants, and this one presses all kinds of buttons -- and ones I haven't seen before in fic. I love the idea of former mutant support groups, and I love the point of view you've got here. Great work.

Thanks! I'm a big fan of fic about former mutants, as you may have observed. I tried to make it more about the issues of people who aren't superheroes, who just have ordinary lives. If you don't mind me asking, what was it I did that was so new? I like to know, so I can continue to build on those threads and ideas.

I feel like when most people write about former mutants, they do it from a very isolated perspective. Which makes sense -- certainly a lot of people going through this would be loners. But this idea of support groups for ex-mutants is something I haven't seen before, and I've also rarely seen anything about mutants outside of Mutant Town or San Francisco. Mutants theoretically used to live all over the world, and their lives were probably very different from those we saw in the X-Men or those who were civilians in superhero-populated areas. That's something you've touched upon here, and I definitely think it's something worthy of more exploration.

That's a fair point. I think I've seen what you mean in the fic I've read. I know if I were an ex-mutant, I'd definitely want to spend time with other people who knew what I'd been through. I'd like to explore this idea more, actually -- especially the Detroit ex-mutants, who likely as not were involved with the automobile industry somehow.

You go where the muse takes you and it took you to a wonderfully dark place.
