This post has been inspired by benchilada, who drew us somethingThe first comment references a Far Side cartoon where an elephant sits down at a piano and wonders why they're there, as they're a flutist. While I will admit to a passable British accent (blame years of Doctor Who and The Avengers), the first time I ever saw/heard the word "flautist," my initial reaction was something along the lines of, "What the hell is a flautist? That doesn't even sound right!"

I know, right? What's funny is that Ben came back later with the Wikipedia article--which is under Flautist--and the vast majority of it discusses how people prefer the term "flutist" or "flute player," including the world's most famous flute player (James Galway) and someone I consider a high-ranking flute authority (Trevor Wye, man of many technique books).

Ben conveniently quoted all two lines that support his use of "flautist." :P
