Lost and Happy in the maize maze

Five years ago now, my mother worked at Kuipers Family Farm nearby. Laura and I went and surprised her one day, and then found out it's kind of an interesting place. They have apple cider doughnuts and pies, you know. We've gone back a few more times, but we missed going last year. I've wanted to do their corn maze ever since I first heard of ( Read more... )

Yeah... I have lobster-ish shoulders and cheeks as a result of our journey.
It was fun though. I just needed my water bottle, moisture wicking clothing, and sunscreen (and a hat!) with me. Then I would've gone in search of 2 and 7 as well :)

At least we know where #2 and #7 are now. Eh, now we know not to do it when the weather's warm.

i can see the butterflies!

that sounds like a super fun time, maybe i will go!

i have never picked apples before, i think it would be awesome.

i LOVE the fall activities that like, but i always feel sad for the animals, so i tend to avoid them. i wish there was someplace that had all the awesome fall stuff but no animals.

i am thinking about going here though, i would love to pick apples and do a corn maze!

i did a 'corn' maze once, but the whole thing was actually a big maze made out of old bathroom paritions and metal, painted to look like corn. they had dried corn tied up around the outside though, so you thought it was corn and charged in and it was all metal. um... what?? lol.

With all the butterflies you can see, there's probably twice as many that you can't see or that flew away while we were taking pictures. I don't know what those flowers are, but man. There were similar flower bushes in another part of the landscaping and they were the same way--plus there were bumblebees, too. Pretty cool.

I've never picked apples either. It's kind of expensive, but if you're a fan of apples and have a way to keep them, it's probably a good time.

You know what? I don't recall too many animals where we were--they might have been more with the little kid activities.

Kuipers has a website if you want to check them out: http://www.kuipersfamilyfarm.com/

i checked out the website and was pretty excited, but they do have a petting zoo, an animal barn, and duck races. i hate stuff like that because the animals generally aren't taken care of very well, and then as soon as they are big and not so cute, they are killed. but i was still excited about the farm because it looked like there was a ton of cool stuff (and they do have a map of the maze on the website!).

sadly, shortly after i made the comment and told scott i wanted to go he told me to mapquest it, and it is over an hour away even using the highways. and he was like - i am not sitting in the car for an hour to pick food off trees. LOL. oh well!

also, not this comment but marching band -- i played mellophone, which is very very heavy. also, as your breath heats it up you get condensation inside, and then the spit / condensation / oil all gets together to form a big puddle, and then when you lift it up to get the right angle when you are playing (30 degrees above level)... it all runs into your mouth. gross!!!

Re: Marching Band: Ew. Okay, I see your point. Piccolos don't have that problem. And I always felt bad for the brass players because their mouthpieces would freeze to their lips in the cold.

Re: Kuipers: Yeah, I figured it was kind of far for you. It's about 15 miles just from my house. There's probably something closer to where you are, and maybe there's just a u-pick apple place without animals.
