It's new fridge day!
I think my parents bought it from Home Depot. There was a phone call yesterday that the delivery timeframe was between 11 and 4 today. Then, shortly after I left for work about 9:15 this morning, the phone call came--we'll be there in half an hour. There went my dad's plan to leisurely get ready and, like, shower. He had to run to the store to get ice for our coolers, where the food got stored during the transition. My parents did cull some items from the fridge and freezer as well, so when I got home the fridge at least seemed decidedly empty compared to how it normally looks.
This is the first time I've seen it in person. I knew what to expect since dad showed me pictures of it online, but it seemed extra deep to me when I got home and saw it up close. It may not be pushed all the way back in its little cubby. Dad mentioned there's some sort of tubing on the side that needs to be dealt with, like a water hose or something. But that's what stuck out to me, literally, as my first impression.
So far, I think I like it. It's the kind with double doors on top and a freezer drawer on the bottom. Dad had to adjust the shelves to allow for the height of a two-liter bottle on the bottom shelf. There are only three places to put shelves, so to allow for a certain amount of room on the top one, the middle one is kind of skinny, I guess you could say. Only low jars and containers will fit there, but it has a fair amount of stuff on it. I kind of like the door shelves, actually, as it seems fairly easy to reach condiments and things. The only item we could not put on the door that we used to have would be the eggs, but they fit onto a standard fridge shelf with no issues. There are three drawers, the two typical side-by-side produce ones plus a shallow yet wide one below them that I didn't even notice at first. Dad stuck cheese and meats there--it's our cheese tray, heh. And one of the produce drawers currently holds wine. Well, at least it's all contained together. Mom has I think two regular bottles plus one small one that got transferred there from the old fridge.
I'm not sure how the freezer will work at this point. I do know that our old freezer, with its shelves, didn't always work for us and we'd regularly joke about playing "freezer Jenga" on days when we'd bought a lot of frozen items. There's a top tray that can slide back to give access to the lower area. It seems pretty well organized at this point, but I'll have to see what all's in there. I haven't really been in there during Lent so I'm not super used to digging around in there currently. Dad did mention that mom left all our reusable ice thingies in the coolers because she doesn't want them in the freezer. That's great, but I do actually use those several times a week when I take a lunch, so I chucked a couple of the small ones back inside. There's also an ice maker in there, but it takes a couple hours for the ice to get made. Dad's letting the ice tray fill up and then he'll empty it per the directions. The fridge as a whole has a different hum that I'm used to, so I hope that'll fade into the background after a bit. Otherwise, I think it'll be nice. So long as it doesn't leave puddles the way the last one did--including a large puddle that spilled out onto the floor the other day, when dad moved the old fridge to clean behind it--I think we'll be fine.
