I think I mentioned this in the past month or two, but there was a house on my way to work that was for sale. It wasn't worth what they were asking for it, in my opinion, and yet I found myself thinking about this house pretty regularly. Like, part of me would think, if I won the lottery, I'd totally snap it up.
It's a quirky little house, from what I could tell. There wasn't a floor plan with the Zillow listing, so I sort of had to guess, but it was clear that the main space was open, with a living room in front and a kitchen area behind it--not really an eating area, though. The front window on the left was the living room, and the one on the right appeared to be one of the two bedrooms. From what I could figure, it looked like there was a little hallway next to the kitchen that led to the two bedrooms, with one being at the back of the house, and a bathroom in between. There was also a garage, separate, a little bit away from the house, and a decently long if not wide yard behind it.
The house looks out onto Batavia Road and the empty lot across the street, though there is a tree there. Years ago, there was a building there, but once the business closed the building came down. It's next to the scenic abandoned gas station. Quite the view. And it's only a couple houses from the corner, making for potentially awkward traffic situations.
Still...it's super convenient to work and band, and school for that matter. It's a mile or so from one of the hotels I'd contemplated staying at for Homecoming last year (on my mind because this weekend would've been Homecoming this year...and the weather is lovely...sigh). There's a pizza place across the street (and a tattoo parlor around the corner, whee!), plus a Walgreens and a couple gas stations across the river. And, with the river, there's a forest preserve right there, with one entrance about a half-mile north. The fire station is a few doors down in case of emergency. The post office is a mile or so north; I-88 and Target are a couple miles south. The only question I have is, where is the closest grocery store? Maybe the Jewel at Ogden and Washington?
Let's be honest. Even if I had the funds and wherewithal to move, I likely wouldn't. I'm such a creature of habit and it would be super weird for me to not live where I do, much less alone. But it's fun to imagine. I'm totally down with a little house, especially one that's a ranch, though I believe it did have a basement so there's storage. That's not even the house I really like--heck, there are at least three other houses just on that stretch of Batavia from Butterfield to Warrenville that strike my fancy way more than this one. But it was nice to dream. That ended on Wednesday morning, when I saw the sold sign hanging. Oh well.
