This is a thought I've had for probably two weeks now--the birds don't know the world has been upended. It's springtime. They're going about their business. They just keep flying and chirping and building nests and what have you. I've been opening my window, even just a crack, for days, trying to get some fresh air into my room since I'm spending so much time there. I hear a lot of birds. It helps that there are several trees and bushes in front of the house or close by. That's perhaps the one comfort I have, that at least this hasn't changed the wild animals. Flowers will still bloom, leaves will still unfurl. I noticed the buds on the trees on March 1st. Once it gets warm enough for a few days in a row, we'll start to see some greening.
I am a bit bummed that I may not get to see spring at the arboretum. It was too wet to go for much of last spring, so by the time I got over there, the wildflowers were gone. I am much closer to there from work, and since I don't have work or band at the moment, I don't see myself going anytime soon. Last year, I'd even made a note to myself to possibly grab my binoculars, since I have a small pair, to bring those this time of year. I forget why, exactly--maybe to get a better look at some of the far-off trees. There had been yellow flowering trees that intrigued me, on the west side, where there wasn't a path and I didn't feel comfortable tramping along the grass for some reason. At least I'd gotten to see the crabapples, and I took a bunch of pictures. I love crabapple blossoms; they're as close as we get to cherry blossoms around here.
Meanwhile, grandma called this morning for a couple reasons--she'd gotten a grocery delivery last night, and she wanted to check on me. For the groceries, it was easier this week because my uncle must've saved what she'd ordered last week, or else the app or whatever did, so it went more smoothly this time. They still didn't have toilet paper or a few other things, I believe, but she got potatoes and chicken thighs and bananas and a number of things, so we're glad to hear that. She also asked me if I'd ever had a headache, since she'd heard that was one of the C-19 symptoms. No, not that I recall, and if I'd gotten one, I likely would've thought it was just from work or stress or triggered by something, since I get migraines. Somehow she was unaware I got migraines. Oh, yeah, for years.
I've since come across this article, which I forwarded to my mom, to be like, SEE??? Thank you, Ohio.
Coronavirus patients exhibiting new symptoms, Ohio health director says by: Nexstar Media Wire

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - According to Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton, patients who contract COVID-19 are showing new symptoms previously not associated with the virus.
Acton said some of the data, particularly out of Cuyahoga County, show patients exhibiting gastrointestinal upset, more fatigue, and sometimes not showing a fever, in addition to the previous flu-like symptoms.
“My best advice to everyone is if you don’t feel well in any way, stay home and make that call,” she said.
Previously, symptoms of viral infection were thought to be limited to those similar to the flu - fever, tiredness, and a dry cough, with difficulty breathing in more severe cases. Patients continue to show those symptoms as well.
A small study out of China found similar cases. Published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, the study found that GI upset, not previously considered to be a common symptom, were the “chief complaint” in almost half of the COVID-19 cases studied, CNN reports. Symptoms ranged from loss of appetite to diarrhea and vomiting.
The study involved 204 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Hubei Province, China.
Researchers warned, “if clinicians solely monitor for respiratory symptoms to establish case definitions for COVID-19, they may miss cases initially presenting with extra-pulmonary symptoms, or the disease may not be diagnosed later until respiratory symptoms emerge.”
They went on to suggest that missing early GI symptoms could have contributed to the early spread of the virus among health care workers in China.
See? This proves I am exceptional, since I always seem to be the exception to things. :P
(For the record, today I am still coughing, bleah. Had a little fuzziness to the back of the throat but that's gone away. A little bit rumbly in the tumbly--not sure if it's food-related or what. Keeping an eye on things. Otherwise, still better than I was last weekend.)
