Hopefully this is the last of the soap opera posts.
Following last Wednesday, when drama mama up and walked out of work without saying anything, I went and talked to the owner and manager Thursday morning and said, can we do something about this? Turns out, they were already on it. They spent much of the morning looking into things and gathering information. There are some concerns about flat-out firing her, so at the moment she is down to one day a week--Wednesday. There is no point in her working every evening, since all she does is just sit there, but she does do a particular task--pretty much the only thing she *can* do--which is useful to the rest of us. This involves sitting and calling clients and getting updated information from them, which does not have to happen on a daily basis. Plus, given that we're basically out of our busy season, things have definitely slowed down and we'd be paring back anyway.
Of course, I still have to work Tuesday nights, which is a bummer, but I'm sort of used to it at this point. I mean, it's not great, but it is what it is. The owner did mention at our weekly meeting that, well, we're looking for someone to work the evening shift, someone who can commit to the hours and whose schedule doesn't change. And, yesterday before I took my break, my boss told me that drama mama was not coming in. I asked no questions and simply went, okay, thank you for letting me know. She was in today, having shown up while I was in the other building for a bit; she seemed subdued and barely said anything to me. I was working on stuff to finish before I left today, and I don't know what she was doing, but our backs were to each other. It wasn't until she went to go work at a different workstation that I got to see that she appears to have a cold or something, which explains her being subdued. I dunno. If she starts probing me for info, I'd try to be honest yet guarded about the situation, but I wonder how much this parallels the problems she has at her other job, and if she could learn something from the situation. This is the teacher in me. Everything is a teachable moment.
