What's new, pussycat?
I was going to save part of this story, but I'll go ahead and share it now.
NCC's band camp was a couple of weeks ago and continued into last week. I'd asked Dr. K how it was going and verified that the first home game is this coming Saturday. He said camp was going really well and as for the show, he thought it would make me proud. Knowing the theme is Motown, I replied, proud like Mary? He went, lol touché! He says touché to me a lot and it reminds me of something, so I immediately replied, pussycat! Because it makes me think of the Tom & Jerry cartoons with the little fencing mouse who goes, touché, pussycat! And then he tries to take Tom on. Alas, this reference was lost on him, and he said he hadn't watched Tom & Jerry since the early '80s. What kind of deprived childhood did he lead? It also made me wonder, wait a sec, how did you learn about classical music if you didn't watch Tom & Jerry?!? Were you a Bugs Bunny guy? ...He did not answer.
He'd said he was going to maybe look it up on YouTube, but I went searching and sent him the following link:
After that, I've now gotten "What's New, Pussycat?" stuck in my head on occasion, like this morning. It ran through my head for a bit as I was having breakfast. Before I left, I made sure to take out the garbage, and as I was putting the can on the curb, who did I spot prowling the front bushes? Coco, the neighborhood cat. Ha! What's new, pussycat, indeed. Coco is usually very friendly and will meow at me and try to rub my legs, which I deny as I'm usually on my way to work and don't want cat hair all over my good pants. Today, since I went through the garage and not the front door, this was apparently far less friendly and she stayed away, sauntering into the bushes in search of a feathered friend, I'm sure. I just thought it was funny that the cat appeared the same morning I couldn't get the song out of my head.
