A bit more about my car

I forgot a couple things in yesterday's post, in part because it was so late by the time I finished it that I just wanted it done and over with. So, one of the things I wanted them to look at happened to be my brakes. I had the front ones replaced last year; the back ones, we're watching, but it seems like it'll be a while. (To wit: They were measured at 4mm yesterday. Strange, because the last time I was there, they were at *3*mm. They regenerated. Who knew.) In the meantime, I started noticing this popping sound at times when I'd press the brake pedal. The first time it happened, I actually wondered if I'd run over something in the road. One side, the other side. It didn't seem to affect the braking ability, and it didn't happen all the time, but I noticed it after it rained or was wet. Pop, pop. Can we take a look at that? So, after sitting and waiting for almost two hours, and having the service gal tell me they couldn't check my check engine light (grr), she then said they weren't able to find a reason for the popping sound. Oh, this is fantastic. But then, when she came back at the end a short time later, it turns out that they had, in fact, discovered the issue. There are sensors on the brakes, the wear indicators, and they were in the wrong place. Part of what had taken so long yesterday was that they test-drove my car (though I wasn't verbally told that; I read it on the printout). They put the indicators back where they belonged, no charge. Thanks.

(As it turned out, I needed my brakes today...some idiot was going too fast on the Fabyan bridge and somehow didn't realize that if a long line of people want to make a left turn coming off the bridge, then traffic backs up and there isn't room to go around them. A *lot* of people make lefts because there are only so many ways across the river, but that turn lane isn't very big. I don't know if it was the big pickup truck that caused the issue, but the big truck two cars in front of me suddenly stopped, causing the car in front of me to suddenly stop, same with me, the car behind me, and the car behind them, all suddenly going from about 40 MPH to zero in mere feet. There was lots of screeching of tires and it was really unpleasant, and I'm just thinking that I REALLY don't want any more damage to occur to my car, and I hope this isn't what's going to take out my struts. Luckily, we all stopped, but my heart pounded until I got home.)

When I reached home yesterday--safely--I went around to my passenger side to pull out my stuff. I'd run an errand after taking in my car and had a few things on that side. Good thing I did; I found not one, but two pieces of glass on the passenger seat. I rarely drive anyone around in my car, and it didn't feel sharp (I kept it), but still. That's just what someone would need! Yikes. I didn't notice anything on the driver's side, and one would hope they cleaned it off, but who knows how far those glass pebbles went. They're bouncy. They go all over the place. *the more you know*

car, oil change, car crash
