I will not be judging Mr. C's contest this year.
Back on the 10th of this month, it got snowed out. (
I still went. That was bummer number 1.)
We eventually got in touch and I let him know, if I was available, I'd be happy to help out…but I had a few Saturdays where I was already committed to things.
Naturally, his contest got rescheduled for a day I had a commitment. He emailed yesterday and I got it today. It's exactly a month later, a week from Saturday, conveniently the 10th again. I have a work thing.
This is such a bummer. Part of what I do when I go there is talk up camp, because I am a big proponent of camp, and even though I fully expected camp to end last year, he's still going with it and, well, I'd have talked it up to the kids again. Because I know a portion of the kids. And, even if I don't, there are still kids I might get to know. This may well be part of what causes the death of camp, if it doesn't happen this year, because it's where the kids first hear about it. If nobody talks it up, nobody knows it's happening…and that's it.
And, mind you, Mr. C is very close to the end of teaching. I think he'll keep going another year, but maybe no more than two. If my math is right, he turns 70 next year. And he's very close to the 50-year mark for teaching; I don't think he wants to go past that.
So…yeah. Bummer. Plus I like seeing the kids. And now I'm really glad I did the other contest. I haven't heard a drop from Mr. M so who even knows if he's running a contest any longer.
