Feelin' Wile E.

I had an odd trip to work this morning.

My drive takes me through a number of either open or wooded areas, i.e., clear of buildings and people. I've come across a deer or two on my way home from band, for example. The mornings are usually busy enough that critters stay away, at least the furry, four-legged kind. Birds are another story. There are always geese or hawks around. On certain light poles, I have to remind myself that the ever-present hawks aren't actually fixtures atop them; they do move on occasion.

This morning, as I was on Fabyan heading east toward where the residential portion ends, I saw a critter moving just east of the adult care building. What is that, a cat? I was far enough away that I couldn't make out what it was, exactly. Traffic was lighter than normal, and nobody was next to me in the right lane, so when I finally reached the area, I could see, unmistakably, that it was a coyote. It was kind of in the ditch next to the roadway, but its head popped up, and there it was, definitely not a dog or cat.

Coyotes have been a big deal around here for a few years now. Geneva especially has had issues with them, with people saying they just walk down their streets at times, and steal small dogs, and over the summer there was talk about bringing in a coyote remediation specialist, or a relocator, or someone of that sort. I've not noticed anything here, but then again since we no longer have pets, it's not something I'm worried about. (The hawks are another story. I totally saw one hanging out on the fence on Sunday while I did laundry. Those things are huge.) But, to actually see one, in broad daylight, with other people driving around...it reminded me of the end of Harry Potter 5, when all the workers at the Ministry of Magic arrive and Voldemort is totally there for everyone to see. They *do* exist! And they're here.

Also here: I was turning the corner just a block from work when I came across a couple walking a dog. Said dog was wearing a coat...with a hood...that was completely fur-lined. This is a thing now? It looks like something my mother would wear. That's not a good thing.
