The flip-flop flub

(For once, I'm doing something like this in a timely fashion.)

I first heard about this story while watching the morning news: Some members of the Northwestern women's lacrosse team wore flip-flops on a visit to the White House, and they were photographed, piggies and all, with the President. It was also in the Chicago Tribune today. (Note-- ( Read more... )

jen would you be mad at me then for the wedding I attended in early June...I went to curch in a nice green/teal summer dress with 3/4 length sleave jacket...but for the reception which was held at a country club at 6pm in the evening I wore a "little black dress" i didn't have anything else...No flip flops...I own 2 pairs and wear them for slumming...and yes i've worn them in public but to go grocery shopping not for a special occasion.

Well...first, the flip-flops. If you didn't wear them to the wedding (in any form), then you're still cool. I'm not into sandals to begin with--I pretty much shunned them from childhood up until a couple of years ago, when I found some that covered my toes--but clearly I'm in the minority on that. I'm just so not cool with, say, being at work and helping a customer and I have to see their feet. It's kind of gross. But not everyone's like that.

And you didn't wear the black dress to the ceremony; you wore colors. Good. It makes more sense to wear a little black dress to a reception then the actual ceremony. I've always been one who wore the same clothes to both, but sometimes that's not practical. And brides themselves have been known to switch out of their formal bridal gowns for something that's easier to move around in.

You found the loopholes. ;)

I'm so old school when it comes to things. I'm not sure where I get it from. Maybe I fell asleep on top of an Emily Post book one day or something and I learned it through

See my entry for May 27, 2004. Like you, I find flip-flops annoying at best. And I'll let the entry continue my rant.
