Newsworthy

Mom went to visit her dad today. I was eager to talk to her when she got home and I asked if she had any trouble getting to the care facility or if she noticed anything out of the ordinary. She thought traffic was heavy, but as it was during rush hour, that's to be expected. Otherwise, no. Well. In order to get to the place, she had to drive past our old mall, the one we frequented when we lived there. Early this afternoon, there was a shooting in the parking lot. This really saddened me, since I'd always considered the mall safe. The news even reported that there hadn't been a shooting there in over 30 years, so that bears me out. I don't ever recall one there, and I would have been too young to pay attention to the previous one. It turned out it was a domestic situation and short-lived, so it wasn't like the general mall population was in danger. Still, that stuff is scary, and I'll never understand why people think this is some sort of okay thing to do. Like, I'm unhappy with a situation; let me shoot the other person! That'll make it okay! NO. NO IT WON'T. STOP DOING THIS.

Meanwhile, I asked mom if she saw any news vans or cameras. She didn't, as far as she knew. We started watching the news at 4:30 and she drove by there just before. I was reminded of the sexting scandal in town during the last school year when mom ended up driving through a live shot. No, it doesn't appear that she did that this time. She said they'd even had the news on in my grandfather's room and she was surprised not to hear anything about it; this is pretty much down the street from where my grandfather is. Well, I guess it's a good thing they knew nothing; no sense panicking a bunch of old and/or infirm people for no reason. And, well, he's apparently doing okay. So that's good.
