Sa alam ko, yun assumption bakit pinangalan sya purgatory kasi sa mood nung amerikano nung naka station sila dyan - lonely (malayo sa sibilisasyon) at malamig; and another assumption is nakikita mo na ang langit. Actually, i think limbo is more appropriate, not sure if they have that sa religion nila.
there are parts of the trail that are unmarked. some junctions will take you to places other than the ones marked in the traditional mangisi traverse. but since they want the place to be friendly to tourists, they are likely to put directional markers anytime soon. about the trail to kayapa, i don't know about that. the jump off in japas and trail end in pethal are both within the territorial jurisdiction of bokod in benguet, although there are trails that lead to/start from kayapa.

Done! Jan 15-17. I was compelled to hire a guide, presumably the one who gave you coffee and yams, but I made him walk behind me and sent him home at Tangbaw. The 7am A-Liner bus from the Slaughterhouse takes you straight to Japas for 90 bucks. Having read of your trek to Pethal I ordered a motorbike on standby at Ekip and bathed at the Bokod municipal hall before taking a van back to Baguio.
so it is possible to do this trip without that overpriced jeepney ride, haha. i'm glad i was able to give you an idea about that blasted 5-kilometer road to pethal. it really was the most difficult part.
