It does look a bit straight-to-DVD-action-film-poster.

Also a bit indistinct, at first glance from a distance it probably isn't obvious that she's holding a gun it's so darkly lit and anyone not familiar with Firefly might not immediately notice the strange firey thing in the bottom right is a spaceship.

Actually, looking at it a bit more, I think it would be a fine if unspectacular poster if it wasn't for Mal's GIANT HEAD looming in the background.
