Yes I think Nimoy is probably the only Vulcan who's seemed convincing as a Vulcan. Although Mark Lenard as his Dad was good too. The other actors can't work out how to play emotionless without playing robotic or supercilious.
See - I couldn't care less about Trek, but this is the first one I may actually bother to see at the cinema. This may be something to do with Simon Pegg.
I'm rather fond of the 1981 version of Triffids - even though the Triffid effects aren't great it has a nice pace and tension. My main thought is that, what with all the post-apocalyptic stuff around at the moment, do we really need to return to Triffids?
Yes my wife pointed that one out! I remember watching the last BBC version of Triffids as a kid. It was a bit creaky in the technical department but the design work was good and the production was fairly decent. Hope they don't make something idiotic and dumbed-down.
In any case the new Survivors has surely stolen a lot of the ground Triffids would want to cover, only without the exciting killer plants. Although it's a bit soapy and simplistic I've been pleasantly surprised by how restrained and (relatively) mature Survivors feels compared to alleged adult fare like Torchwood.

Does no one make anything original any more?
