She's a knockout Part 1

There was a definite feeling of trepidation in Arizona as she crossed the lobby towards Calliope Torres. She looked stunning even under the neon glow of the hospital lights her hair was doing that wavey thing that framed her face perfectly, her jeans hugged in all the right places and that shirt shouldn’t be legal however there was an impish smile on her face that Arizona recognized only too well as she had seen it a million times on the faces of the children in the Peds ward and it made her heart sink. That look meant that Calliope was up to something, something that Arizona wasn’t going to be let in on until it was too late. Perhaps it was a bad idea to leave the ball in Callie’s court after their last date. She felt it had gone really well, but then again she thought Callie would be a stuttering wreck and it would be as awkward as a date possibly could be.

She  had been more than pleasantly surprised when at the end of the date she found herself wishing it wouldn’t end. Dinner had been superb, conversation had flowed so easily that she almost forgot she was on a date with a potential girlfriend, rather that she was having dinner with an old friend.

She regretted being so hasty in knocking Callie back when she had asked her out, but maybe it was for the best, as Callie seemed to be taking things more seriously than just another adventure. She was definitely out to prove something. Arizona hoped that it wasn’t going to end in heartbreak, as she could so easily fall for this girl in a deep way just to find that Callie had proved her point and was ready to move on. Their first date alleviated some of her fears as it was all so natural, maybe she could hook Callie so totally that she wouldn’t want to back out at any time.

After dinner they walked for what seemed like moments, but in reality had been several hours, their bodies close but not touching as they talked about their childhood adventures,  she wanted to reach out and take Callie’s hand in her own but would that be too forward for such a cautious start. She remembered feeling her heart fly into her mouth as Callie made the move to lock her fingers with Arizona’s.

At the end of their walk, they parted ways for separate cabs. Arizona felt a stab of disappointment as Callie seemed to toy with the idea of kissing her, then decided against it. She had to take comfort in the way that Callie’s eyes seemed to definitely look pained when they separated. Maybe she was just trying to be a “gentleman” and not push it on the first date? Arizona wouldn’t let that fly tonight. She was going to feel Callie’s soft lips against her own tonight even if she had to fake a heart attack to get the kiss of life.

Breaking out of her memory haze, Arizona’s eyes searched for Callie as she wasn’t at the front desk anymore. A split second of fear bit in her throat before she realized she hadn’t been stood up, rather that Callie was making her way over to her with a somewhat concerned look on her face.

“Hey, are you ok? You looked like you zoned out there for a minute.” Those lips are too perfect thought Arizona as she struggled to find an excuse for her zombie state a moment ago.

“What? Oh I’m fine, I just… uh… I was running through in my head that I had done everything I was meant to do before I leave.” That sounded plausible enough right? Evade and divert, that was the key to Callie not noticing too often that Arizona had a tendency to stare uncontrollably at her, or fall into wistful daydreams about the Latino surgeon. Divert. “So where are we headed?” Oh no, there is that impish smile again.

“You will have to wait and see. Though I promise, I bet no one will have taken you on a date like this before.” With a slow wink, Callie had made Arizona’s heart stop then race faster than Road Runner. She is going to be the death of me thought Arizona as Callie once more reached for her hand and led her to the parking lot. A few interested glances followed them as they walked together towards Callie’s powder blue T-Bird. That back seat looks comfy… Stop it… Her thoughts were getting way beyond acceptable as she watched Callie bend into the back seat to grab a CD case. Those jeans really did hug in all the right places. Turning around to look out into the parking lot she looked up to the starry sky and made a silent prayer to whoever was listening asking for her to stay cool, calm and in control. Callie would never let her live it down if she caved first. Taking a deep breath she refocused and realized that Mark Sloan was eyeing her from across the car park, Lexie Grey as always nestled in at his hip. She looked confused at the smirk on Marks face, but he looked as if he were in on a private joke that would bite Arizona in the ass later. But as he was best friends with Callie, he most likely was in on a private joke that would bite her on the ass.

“Ready to go?” Callie nodded her head towards the passenger seat while giving Arizona that superstar smile which could launch a thousand ships or sink a million hearts.

“As I’ll ever be.” Came the less than confident reply she had hoped to give. Callie smirked and waited patiently for Arizona to slide into the seat, as she closed the door gave she gave a wave to Sloan and made her way around to the driver’s seat.  Nestled in this car together, felt so comfortable that all of Arizona’s fears and thoughts in general seemed to flood away. Turning her head to have a subtle stare at Callie, she realized that she was being stared at, a gaze that seemed so warm and affectionate that she couldn’t help but smile as she felt the butterflies nudge at her stomach. Callie kept her gaze on her as she revved the engine to life. It’s like being in a movie: was the last thought in Arizona’s head before they peeled out of the parking lot and into the unknown of a date unlike any other, or so Callie promised.
