Near & Mello and That Institute/HP Question

Dude, flour is a magical miracle powder. I had practically no clue before this year that it could be used to make stuff; I knew people kept it in their cupboards, but I wasn't sure for what. I think I might have thought it was used to keep cutting boards floured, or something. Who knows. I might not have thought about it at all. But it turns out ( Read more... )

It's a puzzle and a game for Near and Mello, more so than it was for L. I forgot exactly which chapter it's in, but you know the one where Mello's got the DN and starts in on the various members of Near's team? And Near doesn't even look up when people are dropping dead all around him?

I'm also really enjoying that Light is no longer so cocky - he's got two people the equivalent of or maybe better than L to contend with now, and all of a sudden his whole carefully-built plan was pulled out from under him. I think he also got even cockier and complacent during those 4 years with no real opponent, so this has been a major nightmare for him.

His intellect has dulled, man, and Near is all too happy to rub it in. He'd just about tamed crime, too, if we're to believe the news reports, so he must have been feeling pretty good right up until Near and Mello showed up. Definitely a nightmare. (I'm trying to believe his snippiness and sour face come from that loss of control over his world, and not from just getting a bit boring and humourless during his reign. Because, dude, not even Misa would stay with him for four years with constant orders and complaints even when he's getting his way. Surely. ...right?)

I don't dislike Light at all, still, but he seems dusty and a bit of a poor fit for the comic now. He's not nearly flamboyant enough to compete, which is a big change from his evil mastermind pose of most of the first sixty chapters. :D

Yup. He's also at a disadvantage because Near and Mello won't hesitate to sacrifice anyone to get the prize in the game. Light, so far, has shown that he's unwilling to sacrifice his father or sister.

Strange, isn't it, that the guy who's technically the bad guy is the most principled of the bunch. XD
