This is what I'm going to call a "fandom reward 'fic." It's peppered with the sorts of things that might not fly for mainstream readers but are going set off bells on Tumblr: PJO is pretty hot right now, and the references to Apollo, Achilles and a golden boy are going to flip a few switches, and that's not the only time you do this. You have written for your audience and I suspect they're going to go wild.

That being said, it seems a little too densely packed with rewards. We like mythology references. We like the idea that people can have psychic connections. We like the idea of humanity super-adapting in response to some magical event. We like love at first sight. We like the idea of soul mates. A lot of this adds up to too good to be true. It isn't enough for Mako to love Raleigh, she has to have always loved Raleigh. In fact, the moment of hesitation that Mako feels when she sees him lined and cautious is probably my favorite because it cuts through the sweetness a little bit. I wish it had lasted longer ( ... )

I love this. And it did tick all the boxes but I still like it! A good, fun romp.

The scientists studying the Kaiju theorized that humanity was changing in small, subtle ways from prolonged exposure to the creatures; Kaiju Blue in the water, the air, reshaping the synapses in the brain, making some slightly psychic. But many laughed at the idea of neural connections outside of the Drift, argued that the best pilots already had deep and emotional bonds, that complete strangers did not make for good co-pilots. You were as likely to find your soulmate in a single glance as you were to find someone you were perfectly drift compatible with.
At twenty-one, Mako Mori found both.

CRYING ABOUT IT

“That you looked up to me. Thought I was something special.”
The tablet clicked softly against the bedside table as she set it down. “You are. Always have been.”
