fishie poll - name da fishies!

OK. I have been looking for name pairs that mean sun/moon or gold/silver. Here are the ones I see as most interesting:

1. Tera & Marama Maori sun god & moon goddess
2. Kane & Hina Hawaiian/Polynesian sun god & moon goddess
3. Liza & Mawu West African sun god & moon goddess
4. Jua & Mwezi Swahili words for sun & moon
5. Koura & Kawata ( Read more... )

fishie names, koi, fishies

I like 5. Koura & Kawata Maori words for gold & silver - the alliteration is fun. If I am pronouncing them correctly.

Kane & Hina, for sure - so the fish can feel tropical.
They also sound androgynous enough that it doesn't matter
which is the boy or girl - or if they both are one or the
other.

I agree with you. Those names sound more colorful, somehow.

West Africans and Maori aren't generally associated with water, even if you ARE looking for Sun/Moon names. They are inland peoples. Helios and Selene feel, I don't know, common somehow. So many things have been named after the Greeks....

But this is only my opinion.

I keep thinking of Cleopatra's children by Anthony - Alexander Helios &
Cleopatra Selene - & the bad karma alone make me disfavor those names.
