I can't find words to express how much I enjoyed this story. It was so darn good I want to read it all over again! (Yeah -- I stole your words.) The horrible puns, Spike's accent, Willow's frustration, the drinks -- but especially the way you stuck so closely with the original movie -- it's just perfect.

I'm glad you liked it so much, it was a heck of a lot of fun to write!

The idea occurred to me not long after re-watching Casablanca, and then remembering Xander was off in Africa, doing who-knows-what. A definite "shazam!" moment.

The only downside was casting Buffy as the bad guy, but as the nominal leader of the "army" of slayers it just fit too well to avoid. Giving Spike the Claude Rains role also proved to be an inspired idea.

With both Casablanca and BtVS having such great dialog and characters it was hard to go wrong when they got mushed together.
