She doesn't explore the room. She stops after she steps in, careful to not be in the way for Martha's entrance. She does carefully note where things are that she can see, it's her place and training to keep things neat and perfect.

She says after giving the girl a chance to look around,
"If you want to change it either do so or, if you need something to do so...like paint or different sheets, then let me know and I'll either get it or help you with it. Anything in here is yours, and all I ask is that you let me know if you're going to burn it so that I can turn off the smoke alarm."
She means that, too, and while she is looking in she doesn't step into Elizabeth's room...following it with

And she just blinked once, noting what Martha said, but not truly believing the...liberties outlined.
"And my duties?" she asked simply, voice even and calm. It was, upon occassion, easier to serve a female Master, as they required...less in most cases. But, there was still the truth that there was nothing free.
"Take walks, read things that interest you, watch television. Do what you want. The only duty you have right now is to figure out who you are when you don't belong to someone else."
This does not mean that Martha has not locked up all of the sharp objects and other easy means of suicide. There is not so much as an aspirin loose in this house.
