Okay then so apparently this is what preoccupies my mind first thing in the morning. So let me talk for a bit about Persephone and Hades. I don't know where this whole fascination with them came of late, but it is definitely present. I keep seeing these adorable romantic pictures of them. While the pictures are adorable, I am not denying that, ( Read more... )

I've never heard of Hades and Persephone as a soft happy couple. Hades took her by force or coerced her and she hated it in the underworld because it basically was the opposite of her entire being, according to all the things I've read. Interesting that you've found things where they're a happy couple??

Yeah I've been seeing a lot of it on the internet. I think part of it is apparently caused by Percy Jackson.

Actually the myth of Adonis and Persephone isn't a big main myth. It was adapted from a popular Phoenician myth of the love of the goddess Ashtarte for Adon. The greeks just applied it Persephone and Adonis. As such it really isn't that widely known. It's kind of a side story. Persephone is widely regarded as the goddess of spring/harvest but also the Queen of the Underworld, often depicted besides Hades. So she was clearly regarded as the Queen of the Underworld, which may be where a lot of this lovey-dovey Hades/Persephone imagery/ideas come from. In fact besides the main myth of her adduction, she most features in myths revolving the underworld such as Heracles, Orpheus, Minthe, Peirithous, and Psyche. Several of these myths include the two (Hades and Persephone) not allowing other lovers, such as the myth of Minthe being a concubine of Hades which Persephone turned into the mint plant. So there are some hints that they ruled equally and wouldn't let each other have other lovers/ be taken away by others.

Can't believe some people missed the fact she nearly starved herself to death in protest while held captive. I feel the real reason why she ate those few pomegranate seeds was cause she realized "If I die down here, then I am stuck down here"

Yeah. I mean the gods need food in Greek myths, at least I'm pretty sure they do since they typically dine on ambrosia and nectar.
