My songs know what you did in the dark

I have a deep fondness in my heart for the abandoned places of the world. I'm not entirely sure why, but part of me gravitates towards the broken down and the desolate. It's not an all the time thing, there are times when I see the decay around me as being somewhat tragic. But there are times I see it as poetic. I look at the bits of decay ( Read more... )

Ah, awesome. I know she's really into photographing abandoned places. They're not really my thing, but you both have such a beautiful perspective on them!

To me, I think it's the history that you can almost grasp on old places, the wear and tear, the imperfections, that tell you a lot about it. In certain places, it is, as you say, magical, where you can almost imagine those who've been there before you.

I am too amazed and amused with nature's relentlessness. I witness this each time I remember to water my plants after having forgotten for a few days, and I see them fight for life and bloom at every opportunity, still. Yes, I am at times a bad plant keeper!

Yeah I can agree on the history not. You really get a feel for history in a very real sense, that you are walking where others have.

I too am just fascinated with nature and its relentlessness, as like you said, life blossoming from the ruins of the old.

I love abandoned places. My favorite place is the local abandoned psych center. I could spend all day there.

I have never been to an abandoned psych. ward, though I do want to find one. There is something haunting about psych wards that have been abandoned.

I'm also fond of abandoned places, although it depends somewhat on the place. A broken down shell of concrete, stinking of urine and covered in bad graffiti, is not all that appealing. What I really love is to see nature reclaim abandoned buildings. I saw in a documentary recently a nature reserve around an old atomic weapon testing site in England and it looked amazing, I would love to visit it one day.

I will say it is more peaceful when it is filled with plants...and better smelling.
