"I know it must be hard, giving me a second start"

I've started writing a story with the gods. I don't know quite where I'm going with it, but I've been reading a lot about mythology and I figure I might as well do something with that knowledge. Okay that sounds a lot more intelligent than it should. Seriously, the whole Avengers movie, mostly, Loki sent me off on this kick. I just keep ( Read more... )

Heh. I have one of those too, separated by section of the world. The only thing mine lacks is South American/Native American myths. Actually that's what made me see the many different apocalypse stories, when I saw them all line up one by one.

It's not quite an apocalypse myth but one of my favourites is the Hindu cycle of life death and rebirth with Brahma the creator, Vishnu the maintainer and Shiva the destoyer. Hinduism also has some pretty awesome myths and stories in general, the one about how Ganesha gets his elephant head is very cool and also somewhat gruesome.

I think a lot of the religons have apocalypse stories of some kind, or at least a death and rebirth cycle if no actual detailed event of the end of the world.

I like the idea of a death and rebirth cycle a lot more than an ultimate apocalypse to be honest. I find the idea that one day things will and that will be it too final for me. It even frustrates me when some scientists say that the universe will one day just go back to nothing. I have a hard time believing all that potential will just be potential forever.

Plus for the purposes of story it will probably be more like a cycle anyway. Otherwise it would be a lot harder to prevent since no one would know it was coming/have been through it before.

I do love Shiva and an opportunity to use him/her would be great. A lot of Hinduism tends to blend very gruesome with myth, which interests me.

I have never heard of squirrels being tame enough to get close enough to dive bomb people's legs XD That's crazy.

Anyways, that mythology story you're working on sounds fabulous! I've been such a sucker for mythology, ever since I was VERY young (I discovered it wandering the childrens non-fiction section of the library at some point in elementary school). So many wonderful stories, and I love learning about different religions as well, for the variety of neat stories and philosophies. It's all just so fascinating!
