Sometimes I Terrify My Husband

Jun 23, 2005 00:20

A few weeks ago, Karl and I were in San Fransisco for a few days. No real reason for the trip. He's been bugging me to go somewhere with him, and that's were we ended up. To save money and make getting around town a little easier, we stayed in the Tenderloin district which is one of the more questionable neighborhoods of the city. For the most part ( Read more... )

Sounds like an appropriate response to me. It's easier to deal with a creep when he's farther away rather than being right in your face

Last time I was in San Fran (2000) I was amazed how much sketchier it is than New York. I'll walk through Harlem after dark with no fear at all. But that huge homeless encampment on Market? The freaks on the bus? Bugged me out.

That said, SF is probably the only other city I could see myself living in.

Without any thought at all, I hollered across the street at him "WHAT??"

Heh. You'd probably fit in here.

I like to think I would be all tough in situations like that, because I grew up in group homes and dealt with some rough stuff, but the truth is, I have almost nil practice at being taller than I am and I know that what I really do is dissapear into corners.

And sometimes disappearing into corners is the best way to survive. I've done plenty of that myself.

The funny thing about puffing myself up to look taller and more forbidding is that I'm 5'5" and I was standing next to my 6'4" husband. I don't think there was anything in the world I could do to look tall in that situation. *giggle*
