Hello to all of my LJ friends (who still have me on their friends lists, lol)! I've been on "LJ hiatus" for a few years now, but I've found myself coming back to the site several times recently for other things and decided to dust off the old blog. I'll probably be doing some revamping of images, blog titles, etc in the next week or so ( Read more... )

Listen and ask for advice. Find someone who doesn't see you as a threat, and knows what they're doing, and ask them if you could use some of their time if you have questions. If a situation comes up that you aren't quite sure about, seek out that person, your supervisor, or someone you think you can trust and tell them what you think a good solution or way to address the situation is, and then ask them what they think. See what makes sense and figure out the best way to approach it, and then do what you think is best. Don't feel like you have to use every piece of advice given to you, but don't go running around like you know everything either.

When things start becoming more routine, you'll relax a little more, and stuff will fall into place easier. But don't be afraid to ask questions! If you get punished for trying to learn a more effective way to do your job, then it's not the right place for you to be anyways. You could do better, in that position.

LOL, it's definitely not the right place for me, but it's the job I've got and it will last only about 8 more weeks. (Census. Temporary. You get it.)

I've gotten all sorts of interesting advice from people with management (not in my office) experience on how to be a good supervisor. I'm really trying to absorb it all and put into effect what's working.

How've you been, Robby? I know it's been like a million years...
