Everything west of Ipswich is farmland and scrub, with a few tiny villages, then the Great Dividing Range rises in pretty much one long escarpment just to the west of this map, which is where the flash floods went through on Monday. Any rain up there kind of only has one place to go.
The Bremer river in Ipswich is in a fairly deep cut (more minor floods are pretty normal around there, but yes - it's a *lot* higher than I ever want to find myself in the way of.
