I Know What I'll Be Doing This Summer

Jun 22, 2011 23:43

This isn't the first time I've driven home from the airport, knowing I won't be seeing my wife for months; it's the fourth. By now, we've gotten really good at the packing and the financial planning and the chaos and me spending the next several days cleaning up the house. But I would be naive, not to mention stupid, if I believed for one minute ( Read more... )

<3 I've not had to deal with my husband being away for that long - maybe two weeks at the most? But I know I would miss him terribly if it happened. I can deal with a week. I can usually find enough distractions in that time. Usually in the way of online friends. Because I need people to survive. Any longer and it does get harder.

It takes me a little while to put together the distractions I need, but I think I have a few ahead of me.

Before we agreed to take her job, we had gone a long time apart, and it was terrible, but doable. And this is still doable, I think. The shock will wear off soon.

I think the longest SO and I have been apart is maybe a week-to-10-days at the most? And that was both of us at separate times. Both of us did reasonably OK for that period. Whether either of us could maintain it long-term, though? I honestly don't know  We may have to if he get an out-of-state job.

I'll try to amuse you otherwise. Just PM me or whatever :)

I'd be able to pretend it was a weekend if she wasn't out of communication for the next few days (she's traveling from plane to plane, and it's complicated but she won't be near a phone/computer).

Maybe the dentist can help me forget. With pain

I have three jealous, territorial cats, yet two of them were able to sleep on me without it turning into World War Fur (they each took a shoulder). That helped.

We're all here to help distract you should you ever need/want it! I'm in between semesters at the moment, so I have a month and a bit of shit all planned, so I'll be around at least.

Your wife won't be incommunicado the whole time, will she? I hope not!

(And thanks for the Green Lantern mini-review; I never go into those kinds of movies expecting brilliance, but it's good to know that while not a great movie, it's still entertaining.)

I think the more you know about the comics, the more you'll pick up on the Easter eggs (but the more you'll be pissed off by the under-utilization of Sinestro; just like I was pissed off by the emo-dumbing down of Loki).

I'll be back in touch with my wife in about a week. Long week...

I know nothing about the comics (for both GL and Thor), and by the sounds of it, that's probably a good thing.

That's good! One day down, another six to go. Hopefully it won't be as long as you think.
