So Triple J (a national public radio station that is less than it was but still pretty decent) aired their annual Hottest 100 yesterday. It's been running since 1989 and started out as a vote for the best 100 songs of all time. After a few years that got a little dull and it became the favourite songs of each year instead. It's listener voted and this year somewhere around 750 000 people voted. Which means it's pretty amazing that Muse only beat out Silverchair by 13 votes.
As it's now aired routinely on Australia Day (instead of the original New Year's Day), lots of people throw parties and spend the whole day listening to the radio. Which, yes, is exactly what I did yesterday, just in case you were wondering.
Anyway. Since I recently put up the Rolling Stone top 100 songs of 2007 for
apetslife, I thought it would be an interesting comparison to compile this and upload it as well. In contrast to the Rolling Stone list, the Hottest 100 for 2007 is 50% Australian music. One of my favourite things about it to be honest.
