Light brushes of finger tips against thighs morphed to grabs and not so gentle caresses, trails traced through the hair clinging to the nape of Kibum’s neck became hand holds, places where Jonghyun would lace his fingers to hold him close. Threats of kisses became reality, the things that make Jonghyun bounce about the dorm, grinning, dancing more to the songs he always seems to hear.
It’s a secret, even from the other members, though of course they know, of course they’ve seen the way Kibum and Jonghyun look at each other, the way they entwine their hands under the blankets when they pile onto the couch to watch a movie. Nothing is said, for different reasons. Fear of ruining something that gives the two support, fear of their manager finding out, fear of the fans finding out, fear of everything being ruined, everything they’ve worked too hard to achieve being destroyed by an offhand remark.
They watch, silent, as Kibum and Jonghyun avoid the rest of them in their down time, as they disappear into the small computer room together, while everyone else plays a game in the living room. Each has his own thoughts, his own assumptions, none of them know if any of the others think that Kibum and Jonghyun are in love. None of them are willing to ask.
They disappear together on a Saturday morning they’ve been given off, leave Taemin and Jinki alone on the couch, watching cartoons, Taemin half asleep with his head resting against Jinki’s shoulder. He follows their motion with his eyes, sees the way that Jonghyun grins at Kibum before disappearing into the room. He imagines he can hear the lock click.
“I wish we had something like that,” he says, his voice nigh silent, because no one speaks of it, no one mentions it, no one seems to know where it started, seems to know how it began.
And Jinki just nods a tiny bit, wonders where it started, wonders when everything changed between Kibum and Jonghyun, wonders how he can find his own beginning.
