Notes: All of these facts are anime-timeline, and within are spoilers up to and including the final episode of the series. Movie? What movie? These were awesome fun to write! I love the interaction between these two, as you can probably tell. These are fanon facts based off canon events. I hope you enjoy them.
1. When Jean and Roy first met one another, their opinions of one another were not of the highest caliber. Roy thought that Jean was a dorky tobacco-lover and Jean thought Roy was a smug bastard.
2. Now, years after they started their relationship, Roy thinks Jean's an adorable dorky tobacco-lover and Jean thinks Roy is a sexy smug bastard.
3. Their original opinions were developed when Jean walked into Roy's office with Heymans for his first day of work, an unlit cigarette hanging from his lips as he raved about the cute secretary he'd met on the way in. The cute secretary Roy just happened to be flirting with over the phone as Jean walked into the room.
4. Havoc eventually recovered from this embarrassment and finally accepted his commanding officer's offer of a drink after work about two months later. Over these two months Jean had found himself evermore conscious of Roy's eyes on him. Heymans tagged along, much to Jean's relief, but the blond forgot that being designated driver required dropping the Lieutenant Colonel off directly at his doorstep.
5. When Jean reached said doorstep with his commanding officer after dropping Heymans back at the barracks, he never thought he'd be invited in for a nightcap. Nor did he think he'd be staying there the whole night in Roy's bed. Or rummaging around Roy's apartment the next morning, trying to find his missing pants.
6. Jean discovered soon afterward that his walking around Roy's apartment with no pants on often caused Roy to become rather insistent, and this led to them spending even more time in Roy's bed and being late for work, much to the displeasure of Hawkeye.
7. Jean didn't hesitate when telling Roy that he was his first; after all, it had seemingly pleased the older man. However, telling Roy that he hoped that he'd be his only took an entirely different sort of courage that Jean could not gain through frivolous words alone. Instead, he strived to put how he felt into every kiss and caress he bestowed upon Roy's pale skin.
8. Jean's mother, Esther, found out about her son's relationship with his commanding officer entirely by accident. How was Jean supposed to know that the knock on his front door on that one Sunday morning was his mother on a surprise visit? The fact that Roy answered the door clad in only a pair of pajama pants didn't help the matter.
9. Esther must have assumed that Roy was only wearing a single pair of pajama pants in winter because he was too poor to afford the top, because now she sends Roy a blue woolen sweater with a large red "R" knitted into the front every winter.
10. Roy constantly teased Jean for being "painfully virgin" in the afterglow, when the blond tried to make awkward pillow talk while Roy was drifting off to sleep in his arms. Jean would blush, bury his face into Roy's hair and respond that at least he wasn't a pain in the ass like Roy was.
11. At times, Roy found himself wondering why he chose Jean when he had the choice of practically every high-class person in East City. And then Jean would hold him close, kiss his forehead and run a warm hand up and down his back, and Roy would realize that Jean's simplicity and gentle affection won hands down when compared to all of the complex, demanding people he'd dated before.
12. Jean had been rather shocked when he'd discovered that Roy was one of those people who cared about anniversaries. After their first year of dating, Roy took Jean back to the same bar they'd gone to the night they had first made love. The only thing missing was Heymans; he'd chuckled and politely declined the invitation, attempting to keep his laughter under control when he said he didn't want to interfere with their "alone time". They kept this tradition for many years, but after the first time Heymans always accompanied them to the bar.
13. Roy had also made the mistake of telling Maes about their one year milestone, and as a result they found had found a multitude of cards and boxes of chocolate sitting on Roy's doorstep when they got home. Roy knew they were from Hughes straight away; there was a crayon-drawn card with a horse and a rainbow on it on top of the others; obviously a sign of Elysia's best wishes.
14. Roy had hated anything that had the scent or taste of ashes before he and Jean became lovers; it reminded him all too easily of Ishvar. Over the years he had become accustomed to the rough taste and texture of tobacco through Jean's kisses, and the smell no longer kept him awake for hours on end but gradually came to soothe him.
15. Roy eventually became so accustomed to the smell and taste of Jean's cheap smokes that he often used his Pyrotex gloves to light the blond's cigarettes when he misplaced his lighter, in order to soothe his own nerves, and to see the familiar look of calm bliss cross the blond's face.
16. The pair spent so much time trying to think of places where Hawkeye wouldn't be able to find them while they were slacking off work together at headquarters; the third floor supply closet, the formal meeting room and even the bathroom. But Hawkeye always managed to find them, and after checking that their foreplay hadn't ruined their uniforms, she promptly ushered them back to the office.
17. After Hughes died, Jean had nothing to say that could make his lover feel better. Instead he held him through the night, stayed up while the dark haired man resisted the tears for so long. Eventually, it was a mixture of exhaustion and grief that caused Roy to break, and he sobbed into Jean's shoulder until daybreak. Jean could do nothing but hold Roy close and do his best not to cry for Roy himself.
18. It has been almost six years since Jean had first met Roy before the man talked willingly about Ishvar, past the usual comment of "you wouldn't understand unless you had been there". Hearing of the carnage that occurred in the east shocked Jean; he had never questioned his dedication to Roy's cause, and after hearing of the inhumane terrors that had occurred in the war his decision to follow Mustang until the bitterest of ends was justified and fortified by his own desire to help the dark-haired man succeed.
19. The thought of dressing up as his own lover and commanding officer had caused some sort of nervous curiosity and excitement to rise in Jean's chest at first. Now, as he watched Roy walk over to him, kiss him briefly on the lips and give a weary salute as he curled around the doorframe and towards destiny, Jean felt sick with worry. All he could hope is that he'd be a good enough imitation of Roy to give the Colonel enough time to pull off the coup.
20. The first time after Roy was released from hospital was almost something entirely new; gone was the self-confidence and snark, and in its stead Jean found a man reduced to the barest form of passion and wanting. Jean smoothed dark hair away from an eye scarred beyond repair; regardless of all that had happened, the most important thing was that they were alive and together. This man was still his Roy.
