Jim stopped messing up McCoy's desk when he heard his name, and turned to look at whoever it was now. It sounded like Bones and... looked like Bones but Bones was on the Enterprise and so this was probably a hallucination again.

Was it not bad enough that he'd seen his brother, Admiral Pike and that cop that had tried to stop him from driving off the cliff? God, he was going to see his mom before this was over, wasn't he? Then he really might hurt himself.

"I don't want to hear it," Kirk said, holding out his hand as a warning, trying to keep this new hallucination from getting too close. "Just leave me alone, okay? I'm a disappointment and bad at everything and stupid as fuck. There, I summarized it all for you so you can disappear now."

McCoy eyed him a moment, almost holding his breath as he wondered if it was somehow possible he was back from that twisted reality, up until the words and tone registered. He took another cautious step forward, holding up his own hand in a sort of settling gesture as he spoke.

"Jim, what the hell are you talking about? Unless you've gone and gotten your fool hide ripped apart again I'm more inclined to call you an insufferable genius." He eyed him more clinically, was it a flood? What the hell had gotten to him (if it was Jim but jesus, it had to be Jim because that nightmare was over and done with.) "Look at me damnit- what happened?"

Jim stiffened when Bones got close to him, giving him a paranoid look because he didn't want to deal with this. He could stand his brother and Pike and that cop talking to him but he didn't want to hear this from Bones. He didn't care what they thought but he did care what Bones thought and just fuck.

"Please just go away."

"Jim-" He reached out to grasp Jim's arm almost gently, staring at him, the perplexed look fading to purely concern. "I'm not going anywhere until you sit your ass down and tell me what happened. Let me do a scan." He turned, opening the pack at his side.

THIS IS WEDNESDAY BARGE TIME captain_jtkirk March 10 2010, 05:55:28 UTC
Kirk had probably been staring at himself for a few moments in the mirror. It had only been five days since he drank the demon blood but it felt longer than that. Looked like it too if he was being honest with himself. He'd tried to shower at least once a day but shaving was a no go. He thought about it a couple days ago but he didn't think that he'd be able to hold the razor still longer. And despite Bones's cycle of sedating him whenever he needed sleep, he still thought he looked like hell warmed over ( ... )

It was going better than it could have at least. McCoy reminded himself of that whenever he felt the urge to snap at the closest person (usually Kirk these days, though he was sure he narrowly avoided bitching Peter out one of the times he managed to get down to the Infirmary. He owed that man more than one apology at this point.) He had seen withdrawal, treated it, studied effects. It wasn't new, but it sure as hell was new when it was your best friend. Best friend who now perpetually looked like the madman who would probably get a kick out of all this.

It could be worse, but hell if it wasn't just another thing in a series of intolerable shit this tin can threw at them. Even if it wasn't the Admiral or some outside force this time, being back on the Enterprise reminded him how organized things could be- how organized and prepared a ship should be. Not this struggle to keep people safe from Kirk's inevitable rises in temper (and Kirk from the guilt of what he might say or do) and protecting Kirk himself. On the Enterprise there ( ... )

"Like I drank the blood of a demon and now want nothing more than to find another demon and bleed them dry," Kirk said in a defeated sort of tone, tossing his PADD off to the side because he was sick of the crap that was happening on the Barge.

He scrubbed his fingers through his hair while trying to pull the blanket tighter around himself.

"Why do people grow beards? They're itchy as fuck."

"That's because you're a damned mess. If you groomed properly it wouldn't itch." McCoy pointed out, brow raised- or if he shaved, not that that was a safe idea at the moment.

"Are the urges getting better at all?" He asked, tone straying to clinical.
