Birthday weekend and TV show poll

Feb 27, 2006 18:44

*happy sigh* I wasn't even looking forward to this birthday. With my teens and my early twenties now behind me, I am starting to drag my heels about the idea of being another year older. But it's good to have an excuse to celebrate. My sis-in-law's (Vanessa, aka nessabutterfly) birthday is today, and since our birthdays are so close, the last two years we have ( Read more... )

Well, first off, happy birthday! I'm glad you enjoyed this one so much.

That convention sounds like so much fun! The craziest I've ever gotten is dressing up for HP, but I'd love to go more all out some day.

And you do look really nice with bangs! I loved your costume, too.

I think I should give Fruits Basket a try. Lots of people I know are watching it. Is it one you can jump into, or should I try to watch it in chronological order?

Poll: Also loved Early Edition, caught Sliders when I could. But I adored Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Also, Reboot was my favorite thing on Toonami. (Ah, the golden days, when it was Sailor Moon, Robotech, DBZ, and the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest or Reboot.)

You should probably go in order, but if for some reason you are more easily able to access them out of order, I don't think it would be incomprehensible, as long as you know the basic plot hook beforehand. (If you need that info, let me know and I'll tell you.)

Oh! I forgot my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SHOW EVER, Ghostwriter (word). The day I found that show was one of the best ever. I also liked Square One, but GW was frickin' awesome.

I think my brother liked Ghostwriter, but I don't remember it. I liked Square One, though.

Glad your birthday was a good one. :) I had no idea you cosplay - cool!

As to the TV shows, some of them I watched, but was too young to remember distinctly (like 'Life Goes On' and 'I'll Fly Away'). Most of the others I enjoyed and remember, but I wasn't able to watch regularly, because we didn't get any channels at home for about ten years. I did watch 'Sliders' with my best friend - I think it was on before or after 'X-Files', and I'd go over to her house to watch. She had the biggest crush on Jerry O'Connell, and we teased her mercilessly about it. :p

Sailor Moon (the first two seasons, at least) is the only anime I've ever gotten into, thanks to Cartoon Network. My first website was Sailor Moon-themed, but I never got into the fandom. Your sis-in-law's costume looks great - is that her real hair? Her bangs are perfect! And your hair is absolutely adorable!

The bangs and odango (the "meatballs") are her own hair, though it is dyed blonde, but the tails are extensions.

try watching it in Japanese. It is SOOOOO much better, and you will be a hardcore fan in half an instant!!

I absolutely killed my hair bleaching it so many times, but I am very pleased with the results!

Happy birthday! Ooo! I really liked your Sango (and your hair does look nice that way).

I don't know if you've seen any Fushigi Yugi, but if you haven't I think you might like it. It's in the same vein as some of the other stuff you like, it has a very fun romance, and it all takes place in a book! (But definately watch it in Japanese--the American voice for the main character is really annoying.)

Random question: Do you like Jeremy Camp?

i know that I really should know who he is. I hear his name all the time, but I'm drawing a complete blank. He's a musician, right??

He's a really, really popular singer on Christian radio right now. He sings "Right Here" (Everywhere I go I know You're not far away, you're right here, right here...), "Take You Back" (I'll take you back, always, even when your fight is over now, even when your fight is over now...), "Walk By Faith" (Well I will walk by faith, even when I cannot see, because this broken road prepares Your will for me...) and "Beautiful One" (Beautiful one I love, beautiful one I adore, beautiful one my soul must sing...) among others.

Again, glad you had a great birthday. It sounds like you had a fun night dancing (even though you were a bit tired).

My birthday got off to a good start. The teacher I work most closely with at school brought a chocolate chip cookie cake and had all the kids sing to me before they were dismissed for their afternoon P.E. class. Better yet, my students behaved themselves better than usual all day. :D

YUM! My kids sang too but I was the one who picked up a snack for them (which I always do so it was fine with me. The kids love it when it's your birthday so I just play it up with them). :)

However, you were much more fortunate than I as far as overall behavior is concerned. I actually had to call the parents of 4 of my students after school on my b-day and didn't leave the building until two hours after dismissal! So much for "Be nice, it's my birthday!" (I guess it was one of those days - they all seemed a bit hyper that day. Oh well ( ... )

Thanks. :)

I'm sorry you didn't get the "be nice to me on my birthday" effect. Since my students are older than yours (14-15), they are probably more aware of themselves and how their behavior can affect others.
