NaNoJouMo: Defeated by Facebook

Nov 09, 2011 00:31

So, I want to keep up with the writing 500+ words per day thing, but today has just defeated me. The Mad Science labs are fun, but they are REALLY exhausting. And then I get home and you know what? My Facebook feed is even more exhausting. I hate, hate, HATE the way it refreshes itself at the drop of a hat, and suddenly the posts are in a ( Read more... )

It takes you MORE than an hour to read FB? You're doing something wrong. ;)

Seriously though, do you read every update, every post from all the fan pages, every meme, etc.? I scroll past at least half and barely glance at another quarter. Also, you don't have to un-like the fan pages but I'm sure there are some spammy ones that you can *hide* and then click on them directly from your profile page if you're really dying to know what they've posted.

Another idea is to possibly hide most of them from FB and follow them on Twitter. I know you really don't use Twitter much/at all so it'd be an easy way to corral all that misc. stuff in one place.

Oh, I scroll past tons of stuff without clicking or reading beyond a brief skim, too. I think the problem is I have lots of political or religious (or both) fan pages that update a LOT and have links to long-ish articles and videos that interest me. I probably only click on about 1 in 5, but even that is still a lot. I think I'm going to go through tonight and try to see what pages I can hide updates on or maybe un-like. (FREX, there are at least one or two groups that pertain to cosplay in Florida that I don't really need to be following anymore.)

I have the same problem with Facebook. It drives me CRAZY when it does that refreshing thing and I get the same posts over and over. This isn't usually a problem unless I've gone several days without reading it (I don't have a very long f'list and not many groups), but it's SO annoying when I'm trying to catch up. I usually just give up. :\
