It had been nothing Zelda expected to ever receive and while perusing the clothing box for a few new dresses to rotate out among the dresses and skirts she already favored, the tattered pieces of cloth weren't something she'd ever normally give a second thought. It was only the flash of the
Sheikah eye that gave her pause.
It had been years since she'd worn this mask and these clothes, years since she'd hidden who she was with the Triforce of Wisdom to be a spy in the dark instead of the queen she should have been by rights. The island was different in that nobody care if she'd been a princess or not an it had been nearly two years of relative quiet.
Zelda gathered the clothes up to her chest and fled the Compound proper, settling on the beach to watch the waves roll in instead. The ocean always calmed her when her emotions felt tumultuous and she could only pray it would work this day too as she curled her toes into the sand and tried to keep from letting the tears come.
She had failed them, her people and Link, and pretending it never happened on this happy island wasn't going to change the fact that it had.
