Aw hon, I'm so sorry to read of your loss.

I know we haven't talked in...damn, its been years... but getting to meet you and spend a couple of days getting to know you before the wedding made an impression on me that I won't ever forget. You made me feel so welcome and at home, even though you didn't know me from Adam.

You're a special soul and I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you that. Hard times come, but they move on as well. My thoughts are with you.

Please don't feel bad about anything. I don't think it's ever too late to let your loved ones know how you feel, and I'm sure he's received your beautiful words of comfort even now.
