I got back Monday from a fun-filled week at NAMM, where I looked at much music equipment and listened to lots of demos.

I must correct you...Gemeinhardt does NOT "make" Sankyo flutes. Sankyo flutes are, and have always been, since their inception in 1968, made in Sayama, Japan by a team of very fine, skilled craftsmen. (I have always played Sankyo flutes, and have played an 18K gold Sankyo since my sophomore year at The Juilliard School).

I believe the confusion arises in that the current US distributor of Sankyo flutes is a company named Gemstone Musical, which also distributes Gemeinhardt flutes, which are a very low-end brand manufactured in the United States (with the exception of their newest basic models, which are now made in Taiwan and imported to be finished in the US).
