With Christmas passed and another New Years spent together, the months after just seemed to fly on by.  The routine became commonplace, Peter was a little less clingy, and Sam felt incredibly proud to be the father of that little boy.  He'd nearly forgotten about the little journey to the centre of nothingness where Peter had his tea party with ( Read more... )

Gene had been much happier these days, things were in a nice routine, the brat had learned rather swiftly not to bother him and Sam when they were in bed and since he'd started school, things were much better... even if he often faked sickness or walk out of school! Which naturally got them into trouble sometimes.

Still, Manchester had been a bit.. well, dull lately. No murder or serial killers, which was good in theory but boring in real life.

He was busy playing dart with the lads, he didn't notice Jack coming in.

If he would of, he would of been on the defence.

"Sounds good, yeah, proper roast like the kind you have on a sunday. Bet Pete will fancy that, gonna be a cold day, cooking might keep you both busy," one could hope, Gene knew he wouldn't be followed but he had to worry, didn't he? He hated admitting it but he didn't like the idea of either of them being hurt, it was an unsettling thought.

Pulling Sam close and not cuddling him, because that would be poncy, he turned off the lamp and sighed.

"We need to find a sitter for Peter one of these days so we can go get pissed, I miss our pub days," now they had to stay in like good dads!

"I'll work on it," Sam murmured, half awake and comfortable. He'd worry about it tomorrow. Worry when gene left the flat. He wasn't expecting to wake up with the Lion already gone and Peter in bed with him. He signed and bit and ruffled the boy's hair, letting him sleep a bit longer so that he could make blueberry pancakes for breakfast.

Jack snorted at Gene when the angel popped up a full two hours early. He was just cleaning his gun, sitting at a desk in the middle of the swirling star void. "You're really early, DCI Hunt. But have a seat. Have you seen one of these? It's about your time, second World War. Wrong branch of the military though."

"Little beyond me, too young for the war, did try to enlist, what lad didn't?" Course being 6 got him turned away but he still dress liked a soldier and played war with his mates, carried his gas mask to school, played dared with Stu around the bombsitesb and searched for the shell. He remembered the blitz all too well, it was both terrifying and thrilling.

Still, his dad had brought home his gun, he recognised the style, he knew tommys who had similar ones but that was not a British military issues gun. Probably American.

Taking a seat, he rolled his eyes. "You're a yank, or your body is, I don't know nothing about the American war effort except the war would of ended sooner if you lot hadn't been a punch of giant nancys and put off helping," Gene snarked, crossing his arms. Oh how he longed for the day of the cowboy. "What do you want?"

"Actually," Jack said, no hint of smugness in his voice or face, "This is an RAF Webley Revolver. You guys end up decommissioning it in 1963. Shame. I'm not America. I'm not British. I'm from a time when there was no such thing as America. Or England."

So maybe that didint do a thing to answer Gene's question. No problem. Jack liked his secrets. Probably too much.

"What I fought you here for was to discuss your little family and a job promotion. See, I know you've been trying to get Tyler his wings. Commendable. One of the other little pockets-- how do I explain this? They lost their 'you.' I know your boss doesn't seem to care about balance, but I do. So I was thinking, we could make your DI a DCI. Help us both out?"
