Oh, Dog.

I know that I don't usually talk much about our dogs here. Really they mostly just lay around the house and are a quiet companions for our day. I used to do a lot of obedience and some agility with Lou (the Border Collie and/or Aussie Shepherd), but a lot of that has gone by the wayside as my focus has shifted to work and the horse ( Read more... )

Thanks. :-/ Definitely my worst nightmare, but I'm trying to focus on the work ahead instead of the failure.

Ugh, that is one of my worst fears, just something like that happening. So so glad it was an understanding friend though! Sounds like you are on the right track with him now though, and I hope that he can learn to be a little more chill at home.

*major hugs*

Thanks -- it's every dog owner's worst nightmare! Hopefully we can have the problem under control soon(ish).

Dog post away! Oh, anxious reactive herders! (My elkhound was also reactive without the herder card). I'm so sorry you had a bite. I have to be careful with Rubes as she is very mouthy/nippy. Her Stranger Danger is opposite of Lou's - she is five with people in the house but not outside. I've been keeping a training diary and writing about mat work and the Relaxation Protocol on the Ruby blog.

I'm interested to hear how Lou does on the SSRI. I'm not to the point of considering it for Ruby but my trainer mentioned of as an option down the road if she doesn't improve or gets worse.

I am definitely going to try to keep up with your Ruby blog! Hopefully we can get both of our little red dogs to interact with the world a little better.

I'm anxious to see how the SSRI affects him, too. One of the vets I work with recently started his own dog (a reactive MinPin) on one, and he said he has noticed a complete turn-around in her ability to deal with people around. So my hopes are high that Lou will have the same experience!

I will follow this closely! I need to work with Sully on his cat aggression. I have been lazy about it. And yeah.... I probably would have thrown up too if I were you. I am a wreck when stuff like that happens :( I am so sorry! Glad you're solution oriented now!

My reaction surprised me somewhat, since I'm used to dealing with high-stress situations involving animals, but... it's a little different when your worst fears come true I guess.
