The reason I ask is because the "monsters" move in a specific way which no one's figured out yet. They don't really leave gifts. If he should happen to FIND a type writer, or if it was in the bin that the Dean gave to Torchwood, that would thematically be better.

Well, there's probably a couple people who might leave it, thinking that it was a good idea for him to have it. If he found one around, I'm pretty sure that he would just steer clear of it. Twin-mun was planning on bringing in Mister Scratch, Alan's double, so maybe after he comes in, he could have left the typewriter?
I don't know. er. I really should have thought this out better. Sorry.

A lot of people know that Alan is a writer. Likely Mohinder does. I'm SURE they've run into each other in the cafeteria or in the bathroom.
Maybe Mohinder could have left it for him?
He found it in the storage room. Alan would not want to be MEAN to Mohinder because c'mon, those curls? Those puppy dog eyes? DO NOT RETURN GIFTS TO THE ADORABLE INDIAN ALAN.
