It wasn't the first time that Jack had woken to a rumbling only to find himself in a strange place. He had to have had too much hypervodka the night before to have blacked out on how he got here.

One moment he was with Gwen and Rhys, saying -- more or less -- goodbye...

And the next? In bed. And alarmingly? Still dressed!

He spied the phone by his bedside and frowned at the message playing on it before the whole building shook. It took him less than ten seconds to get out the door and onto the front lawn.

"What the hell?!"

Laura was already standing in the middle of the lawn when Jack got there. She stood with her arms down at her sides, held slightly away from her body. Her head was lifted, eyes closed, she appeared to be... sniffing the air.

As soon as she caught the scent of someone behind her, she turned to look over her shoulder and unsheathed her claws reflexively.

That's right. Claws.

Two claws emerged on each hand as she turned to face the stranger. She regarded him cooly, slowly retracting the claws when she realised he likely had nothing to do with this. His expression was confused. He hadn't brought her here.

"... I am sorry."

"If I had a credit stick for every time a pretty girl tried to claw me to death, I'd be loaded," Jack teased, keeping his cool despite the way that the ringing from the tower made his ears want to bleed. He raised his voice to be heard over it. "Don't suppose this planet has a name?"

"I was under the impression that we were on Earth. I may be wrong."

Space travel wasn't a new concept for Laura. And girls with claws apparently wasn't a new concept for Jack. He didn't seem scared, upset, any of the usual reactions.

"I am not even sure if I still remain in my dimension. Or time. I do not recognize this place."

Oh man...dimensional travel was sticky. Literally. Jack frowned and pointed to the bell tower. Around them, people were running like loons. "C'mon. I bet our answers are there. Let's hope we didn't get sicked into a rift. Really nasty stuff there."

"Rift?" She asked as she automatically started heading toward the tower Jack had pointed out. Following orders just came naturally.

"Where are you originally from?"

"A long, long way away if this is still Earth. Further still if this isn't the Earth I know.]

Long legs meant he could walk fast and still make good time. Jack wasn't good at waiting for others. She'd keep up if she wanted to. If not, he'd get to the bottom of this on his own.

She matched his stride easily, walking just slightly behind him to keep him in her line of vision.

Laura was focused on the tower. The screaming, the ringing, none of it seemed to outwardly affect her. She kept her mouth shut and stayed close to this strange man.

Normally, she'd have left him to fend for himself and started a hunt for information on her own. He smelled... different. She was compelled to follow.

Getting to the tower really didn't answer a lot of questions. There was some guy in a uniform running out of it, but the 'hey buddy' that Jack tried to employ on him just wasn't cutting it.

"Guess we go up," he muttered.

She glanced briefly at the fleeing man, wondering if she should go after him and extract answers but going up also seemed a logical decision.

Laura slipped past him to take the lead. If there was anything lying in wait, she'd be the one to provide cover.

"Stay behind me."

Well that was new. Jack was taken aback, noticeably, though he shook off the strangeness a moment later. "I appreciate the view, honestly I do, but why don't you let me?" Really, were they going to argue about this? "Claws or not, you've no idea what we're up against."

"Neither do you." Apparently they were! "I am a trained assassin. I can protect you."

She wasn't a super hero. Some might argue that she was, but Laura could only see herself as a killer trying to repent.

"You do not know what I am capable of."

He didn't really look impressed, not really. Jack just put his hands on his hips as if he had all the time in the world to argue. "Sure I do. You're fast, strong, capable of killing easily. Listen, sweetheart, I know a dozen of girls like you. Well." He gave her a good once over. "Maybe not quite like you-- All right, you want to go first, ladies first."

"No. Not quite."

She smirked just slightly before entering the building and starting her ascent. All that flirting was going right over her head. She sniffed the air as they went, unsheathing her claws once more to have them at the ready.

"We will not be met with an ambush." But that didn't mean there weren't other dangers.

"Course not, no one's up here." There was some equipment though, most of which Jack had no idea how to use. "Huh." And that was odd. Jack didn't know how to use something? Impossible.

He really couldn't figure out the main device in the console, though. The angles and lines were all wrong. No one made devices like this. No humanoid creature at least.

"What the hell is going on here..."

Laura had to wonder if the professor would understand this equipment if he were here. The man had designed cerebro and he was already familiar with alien technology. From there, she began to wonder if he'd be able to find her.

"Can you understand it? If there is nothing to be learned, it should be destroyed."
