The Iron Heel, by Jack London. In fact, anything by Jack London.

I read some of his stuff in school. Call of the Wild and that other one. I hadn't thought of him in a while. I'll drop that suggestion into the queue.

Don't just read his Alaskan dog adventure novels. He has a ton of other stuff, mostly social commentary. It's a great read.

Anything by Thomas Pynchon. His most famous work is "Gravity's Rainbow" which is the one that got him (I think) the Nobel prize for literature. His most accessible work is "The crying of lot 49" and my favorite of his is "Mason & Dixon" which is also my favorite book of all time.

I tried to read V. in college and did not get far. I'll have to try something else of his.

Maybe my attitude towards literature has changed enough that I would enjoy it now.
