Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would have known that trouble was brewing, not alone for himself, but for every tidewater dog, strong of muscle and with warm, long hair, from Puget Sound to San Diego.
His "To Light a Fire" is definitely worth a read though.
[1] TBH, Fiction's generally not my thing - however I consider Jack London as being in the same fiction-worth-reading subset as Nevil Shute Norway . Though it's fiction, it's at least grounded in the realworld.

My late father was a big Shute fan; I've read a few and enjoyed them for the aviation content and the fundamental decency of the people in his world.
