Jack London's one of my favourite authors[1].

His "To Light a Fire" is definitely worth a read though.

[1] TBH, Fiction's generally not my thing - however I consider Jack London as being in the same fiction-worth-reading subset as Nevil Shute Norway . Though it's fiction, it's at least grounded in the realworld.

Build a Fire is way too bleak for me, I'm afraid, but a short I love very much is Brown Wolf.

My late father was a big Shute fan; I've read a few and enjoyed them for the aviation content and the fundamental decency of the people in his world.
