The Lady in Green - Chapter 3

“Is she really from when she says she is?” Gwen asked no one in particular.

“The clothing matches what she claims, and so does the style of speech and everything else,” Tosh muttered from her workstation.

“Any new sightings?” Owen asked.

“Nothing for the last hour,” Tosh replied, hitting a couple of keys. “Putting those stones Seren blessed at the four corners of the hospitals seems to be working.”

“Yeah, but for how long,” Jack said.

Owen hazarded a glance at the computer monitor he had devoted to the CCTV in the autopsy bay. “Sure, you bitch at me, but no one stops the teaboy from ogling the witch.”

“He wouldn’t take advantage of her,” Gwen replied.

“Like I can?” Owen said as he looked forlornly down at his trousers.

Jack sidled up against him and stared at the screen. “He’s concentrating on the pendant,” Jack stated, pointing out how Ianto was also holding her hands.

“So what do we have to call him now? Warlock Jones?”

“Anything but teaboy would be appreciated,” Ianto said next to Owen.

Both Owen and Jack jumped. Jack took several steps back, glancing at the now empty CCTV screen and then at Ianto and Seren, still holding hands. Owen scooted his chair back, also.

“What the fuck was that?” Owen nearly screamed standing up.

“Language,” Seren chided, cocking her head to the side, glaring at Owen.

“Ianto?” Jack said, stepping forward and touching Ianto on the arm.

“I just faded,” Ianto replied slowly, looking at Seren with surprise.

“Is that how you got here?” Jack asked.

“Perhaps. I also used a spell, though,” Seren stated.

“What spell?”

She closed her eyes a moment and then began to recite the incantation. “Wisp me away through time and space, where none that follow may know my face. Take me to the sacred spot to finish this fight, and find me the most enduring of knights.” Her eyes popped open, clear as day and she stared right into Jack’s. “And it brought me here, to you.”

“I’m no knight lady, especially not an enduring one,” Jack replied, trying to ignore the coughing fit from Owen and the pointed look from Ianto.

“You are,” Seren said as she pulled a piece of bound cloth out of the pouch on her hip. She untied the delicate strings and unfolded the cloth revealing a hand-painted tarot deck. She cut the deck and held up the first card and smiled. Turning it to Jack, she showed him the Knight of Swords.

Jack stepped back. “Where did you get that?”

“It was just made, I was to deliver it to this extraordinary girl. Her name is Faith.”
